You would think a film starring Rahul Bose and Ayesha Dharker is bound to be a crossover film. But you might just change your mind once you see them sweeping the roads of Mumbai clean in Sanjay Jha’s third directorial undertaking, Mumbai Chaka Chak under Sunil Shetty’s Popcorn Entertainment.
“You’d be surprised to see how well Rahul and Ayesha, both known for their cosmopolitan personalities, have adapted themselves to the earthy roles. They look like they were born with the broom,” laughs director Sanjay Jha. “We did an intense workshop. Rahul and Ayesha look completely convincing as the Marathi ‘manoos‘ and the Bihari girl, respectively. In fact, Rahul plays a Dalit, and carries off the role without looking like a crossover king.”

Rumours are mounting that Kanye West and 50 Cent could be ready to end their ‘record sales’ war of words and join forces on a track.
MediaTakeOut.com claim that 50 will remix Kanye’s upcoming single Flashing Lights, they also quote an unnamed U.S producer “50 Cent never had anything personally against Kanye (like he did) with The Game, or Fat Joe. So it’s not as crazy an idea as you’d think…Besides it’s good for hip hop.”

Pritam never denies his sources of inspiration. Whether it is the successful songs in Awaraapan or Race, he accepts the inspirational charges with grace. But the charge that the chartbuster ‘Yeh Ishq Haaye Jannat Dikhaye‘ in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met is ripped off from Indonesian singer Anggun’s French number ‘Etre une femme‘ has the habitually-calm composer frothing in indignance.
“I’ve never denied the sources for my songs. So why should I deny it now? But the fact is, I had never heard Anggun’s song when I composed the song in Jab We Met. I don’t know the song myself. My friend who’s a keyboard player had the groove programmed. I liked the groove and I composed my tune on it. I composed the song in front of so many people. I can guarantee the melody isn’t anyone’s but my own. I must admit the groove is similar to the one in my song. But that’s it. And too to is totally unintentional. Not a note in the rest of my song sounds like Anggun’s tune. And if anyone can prove I’ve copied her song I’m ready to stop composing songs forever.

Shekhar Kapoor, currently into pre-production of Paani, his first Hindi film since The Bandit Queen in 14 years, wasn’t the least surprised by the Oscars announcement on Monday. His film The Golden Age won the Oscar for Best Costumes. Shekhar played a big hand in how Cate Blanchett was dressed. “I participate in every department of my cinema, costumes included. Otherwise I wouldn’t be making films,” says Shekhar. “That Alexandra Byrne won an Oscar for the costumes is not a surprise at all. It’s a richly-deserved award. Doing the costumes of Elizabeth and now the sequel The Golden Age isn’t the same thing as doing the clothes for contemporary dramas. Clothes are as much a character in Elizabeth as in Jodhaa Akbar, if you know what I mean,” says Shekhar. “In the first Elizabeth film Cate Blanchett’s clothes expressed innocence and love and vulnerability. In The Golden Age the costumes had to take her from mortal to divine. The clothes were all part of a design that took the character to divinity. We even saw her in a night dress. There she had almost become a spirit.”

Before we knew it Nikhil Advani has gone and completed an animation film about five animals from the jungle seeking an audience with politicians in Delhi. The film’s title is Ab Dilli Door Nahin. Just one hitch. The title belongs to R.K. Films.
In 1957, the illustrious Raj Kapoor produced an experimental film called Ab Dilli Door Nahin about a young boy from a far-off village journeying to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The film came and bombed. But Nikhil feels it’s the correct title for his film. “My animation film is about a five animals heading for Delhi to meet the politicians there. I can’t think of a better title than Ab Dilli Door Nahin. But the title is with R.K. Films. I’ve requested them to part with it. They haven’t gotten back to me. But I’m sure they will. I hope I’ll be able to use the title. Because I’ve no second option.”
