Fatwa against Salman for celebrating Ganeshotsav

Veteran Bollywood scriptwriter Salim Khan, the father of actor Salman Khan, Friday questioned a fatwa, religious edict, against him by some Muslim organizations for celebrating Ganeshotsav at their home here.

“What is the locus standi of these people? Who are they to question people’s religious beliefs? Why don’t they issue such a ‘fatwa’ against terrorists and terrorism, which is un-Islamic? The clerics are talking nonsense,” he thundered before a television channel Friday evening.

Mufti Manjar Hassan Khan Ashrafi Misbahi, the chief of Darul-Uloom Hijaziya Chishti, Mumbai, issued the ‘fatwa’ urging a religious boycott of the entire Khan family on Wednesday.

Last week, the Khan family was in the limelight when all members along with friends and relations celebrated the Ganeshotsav festival at their home in Bandra, northwest Mumbai.

The Khans celebrate Ganeshotsav every year, but this time, the live telecast of the family performing ‘aarti’ (invocation) of Lord Ganesh has irked some community leaders. Later, the family took part in a ceremonial immersion of the idol of Lord Ganesh.

The social boycott call was issued in response to a demand by Abdul Rehman Anjaria, member of the Advisory Council, Jama Masjid, New Delhi.

Happy Birthday Genelia! From MojMaza.Com

This cute girl-next-door was till now unrecognized and struggling to make her mark (at least in Bollywood ) until Aamir Khan’s ‘Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na’ changed her life completely.

Noted astro numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts what’s in store for the lovely Genelia D’souza who shares her birthday with the versatile Kajol.

( No wonder news about her special day was overshadowed, thanks to most of us who are die hard Kajol fans ).

Here’s what Bhavikk has to say about Genelia –

” Born on 5th August 1987, Genelia is a Number 5 ( 1 + 4 = 5 ) in numerology ruled by Number 5 ( Mercury ), Number 1 ( Sun - Leo ) and Numbers 2 and 7 ( Moon and Neptune - 5 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 38 = 3 + 8 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 ) “.

” Her name vibrates on Number 51 which represents power, strength and sudden advancement in life. After doing some inconsequential roles and films here, the super success of Jaane Tu…has definitely kick started her second innings in Bollywood this year in 2008 ( 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 1 ) which adds to Number 1 – her best number “.

” Genelia has just entered the 22nd year ( 2 + 2 = 4 ) of her life which is most likely to bring her a lot of stress, depression and loneliness at least till the year end. She should take every decision with a lot of thinking. Wearing a ‘Pearl’ ( above 4 carats ) will definitely help her keep her cool and be calm and composed ” advises Bhavikk.

Salman had thrown a lavish birthday party for girlfriend Katrina at Olive Bar and Kitchen, Bandra, in which all the bigwigs of filmdom were invited. According to a newspaper, “Salman was already high when SRK and Gauri walked in. Harman left London premiere half-way

Harman, his father producer-director Harry Baweja, his girlfriend and co-star Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani flew into London on Wednesday for the premiere of Love Story 2050.

But as Harman reveals, there was a catch.”We left at interval. We couldn’t stay for the whole film because we had to catch a flight back to Mumbai to look into the film’s release in India.

It was really sad that I could just stay for half of my first film. But I had no choice. We’d have missed our flight. We returned from London to Mumbai within ten hours. But never mind. I deputed some of my London-based cousins to look after the guests at the premiere.”

While the Khans went all-out to ensure a massive glamorous turn-out at the Mumbai premiere of Imran Khan’s debut film the Bawejas restricted all their flamboyance to their 80-crore budgeted film.

Off screen they played it conservative and decided to have a quiet intimate screenimg of the film at Yashraj Studios.

Only close family and friends of the Bawejas were invited.

An open letter to Aamir Khan!

The Indian national football team captain, Bhaichung Bhutia, barely squeezed in 11 minutes of the mandatory 15 minutes of fame for his principled decision not to carry the Beijing bound Olympic torch in Delhi on April 17.

Reason: somewhere between the 10th and the 11th minute his thunder was stolen by actor/director Aamir Khan who stated that he had a different way of wearing his conscience on his sleeve.

He would carry the torch but with a prayer in his heart for the people of Tibet. He said, “The Games did not belong to China but to the human race”.

On screen, it would be called a nuanced piece of method acting. Off-screen it is called positioning.

Or is it just a coincidence that among the human race that owns the Games are official sponsors Coca-Cola, a brand Khan carries a torch for through endorsements?

Poor man, he will be running multiple overlaps - carrying the Olympic torch as a Coke team member, for humanity’s claim to the Games and for the Tibetan cause against China’s oppression. That’s a lot of running of the treadmill kind.

It is a measure of Khan’s reputation as a thinking individual that his recent sniper attempts to voice issues have not met with the usual disdain reserved for motor-mouth celebrities.

Largely, Khan’s stance as explained on his blog - sans any mention of the Coke factor - has been hailed as a ‘mature’ decision, preserving India’s diplomatic face while expressing support for Tibet.

Bachchans aren’t celebrating!!

As one of Indian cinema’s most formidable actresses reaches a milestone in her life there will be no celebrations on the occasion.

How unlike her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s 60th birthday when there was a huge bash with the who’s who of Mumbai attending.

Jaya, alas, believes in no celebration. Her 60th birthday on 9 April will be very quiet affair restricted to her immediate family.

Says a source close to the Bachchans, “Firstly she wouldn’t have celebrated even if things were normal. But this time with the family mourning her mother-in-law’s death there’s no question of any celebration. When you tell her turning 60 is an event she shrugs and says it’s just another day.”

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan and their bahu Aishwarya Rai have in fact, left for Miami where Abhishek Bachchan is shooting for Karan Johar’s Dostana.

It’s Abhishek-Aishwarya’s wedding anniversary on 20 April. While Aishwarya is expected to stay back until the anniversary The Big B and his wife will return after Jaya’s birthday. Kajol surprises Ajay on B’day

Once tipped as the ‘action hero’ of Indian cinema, versatile Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who turned 39 Wednesday, has proved his mettle in every genre. This year, he also turns director with “U, Me Aur Hum”.

Ajay got an early birthday gift Tuesday when his entire family landed up on the sets of Zee TV’s reality show “Rock N’ Roll”, which he is hosting with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja. The family arrived to cut a cake with him.

His parents Veeru and Veena Devgan, sisters Neelam and Kavita and his nephew Aman were part of the entourage.

“I was pleasantly surprised, considering my parents never go on television. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I’ve ever received,” said Ajay.

After a successful acting career spanning 16 years, the actor wanted to make a film through which he told people a story he really believes in.

“People often ask me if this is the right time to venture into direction. Frankly speaking, I don’t know whether it is the right time or not, but I have always wanted to tell people a story I strongly believe in.

“I had this story idea in my mind for a long time and then I sat and wrote it down. Later when I gradually developed the screenplay, I felt that unless I directed the film myself, it would not be presented the way I want it to be,” Ajay told.

Even before he started off as an action hero in the 1991 hit film “Phool Aur Kaante” for which he won the Filmfare award for best debutant actor, Ajay had worked with internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as an assistant director.

My Worst April Fool’s Prank

Sophie Chowdhary: “The worst one I pulled was back in college exactly at 12.01 am. I was chatting with a guy I had just started seeing. For no reason at all I picked a fight with him and decided to break up.

He couldn’t believe it. Everything between us was so perfect he just couldn’t understand what had happened. He kept calling and I didn’t take his calls. The kahani mein twist is that he didn’t take my calls.

He had figured out my prank and decided to make me pay for it.I was so miserable thinking he had taken it all so seriously. At the end of the day we decided to call it quits and had a hearty laugh. I guess I had met my match.”

Amole Gupte: “On 1 April 2006 I was chosen by Aamir Khan to begin work on Taare Zameen Par. Good joke, that one! And I don’t remember pulling a joke as cruel as this on anyone, Fool’s day or no fool’s day.

Anupam Kher: “My cover for Cine Blitz when I posed for the femme fatale Prabha Devi. That was historic. No one knew it was me. And Prabha Devi was flooded with proposals.”

Niharika Singh: “The worst April Fool’s prank that I played was on one of my closest friends Tanya. I told her I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. She cried and was very upset not realizing it was April Fool’s day.

What will SRK do if IPL fails?

Shah Rukh Khan, who owns an IPL cricket team, will give a year’s time to the new venture and if doesn’t work for him, it will back to films fulltime.

“It’s not a winning business at this point in time..I won’t be able to survive unlike other corporates in this business…So if it doesn’t work for one year, then I’m back to basics…I’ll be doing my films again,” he said.

Khan, who has named his cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders, hoped that kids, who were his team’s fans now, remained so even ten years later.

“I hope that kids who are 12 years old now and are Kolkata Knight Riders’ fans (remain so) when they are 22. So, the whole idea is a long dream and I hope it gets fulfilled,” he told a news channel.

SRK-Preity: IPL war hots up

Shah Rukh Khan has roped in buddy Rani Mukherjee and Bipasha Basu to participate in his IPL video.

But Preity Zinta who’s currently in London makes it clear she’s in no competition with Shah Rukh Khan as far as a star line up in the IPL music video is concerned.

Completely cutting down rumours that Preity intends to get buddies Sunny, Bobby and their dad Dharmendra to do a music video, a source very close to Preity says, “The playing field when the matches start in April will be filled with star-cricketers. That takes care of the glam-element.

As for the music video we feel it should represent the earthy feel of Punjab and Chandigarh. Hence the robust that Preity and Ness have recorded for their team, as opposed to the poetic lyrical mood of Kolkata and SRK’s team.

We feel we can’t capture the flamboyant and vigorous flavour of if we bring in film stars into the video. Preity wants the video to be very Punjabi. That’s why she got Daler Mehndi to sing their theme song.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Vijay Mallaya on the other hand seem to believe star-lineups to be the best way to attract big crowds to their cricket matches.

Holi isn’t safe for women:Riya

Is Holi unsafe for women? Bollywood reacts…

Riya Sen: “Though Holi isn’t safe for women, it should be. Everyone should feel equally free as it is a festival for every generation and gender. I feel it’s a woman’s prerogative to be where she chooses to be on Holi.

It’s the government’s job to ensure adequate security for women everywhere during Holi. Finally though, security is matter of personal choice. We women are as safe as we want to be.

Urmila Matondkar: “Holi isn’t unsafe for a women provided you’re cautious and play Holi with people who are known to you. In any case I’m not much into Holi, bhang and masti.”

Shabana Azmi: “The state must ensure safety and protection for women and men must make sure that the day of celebration doesn’t turn into an occasion for mourning.

Dino Morea: “Being a religious festival I’d presume it’s safe for everyone, men or women. There are just some rare cases of miscreants picking on women. That’s awful. And we must make sure such elements don’t spoil the sanctity of the occasion.”
