My film is titled Hhey Gujju and I am playing the lead opposite Himesh Reshammiya. It is a romantic comedy and is being directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Studio 18. My role is that of an NRI girl who comes to India and falls in love with Himesh.

Casting coup
It was sheer luck that I bagged the film. The producers were looking out for someone to play the lead and after seeing my pictures, they called up my agent.

I was informed that I had to meet them urgently. It was already seven in the evening but I still went for the meeting.

The producers just spoke to me for 15 minutes and said that they would revert in a week’s time but before I reached home, I got a call from my agent who said I was selected.

At the moment Saif’s entire family, and that includes his two children and Kareena Kapoor, has joined him in London where he’s shooting for his first home production.

Alas, Soha isn’t with them. There’s nothing that the svelte Soha Ali Khan would’ve liked more than to be with her family.

Soha sighs, “At the moment I feel completely isolated in Mumbai. My parents and my sister are there in London. As it is, they are potential anglophiles.

They inevitably spend a part of the year in London. Since Bhai (Saif) is there for a while, they all decided to join him. I can’t be with them because I’m shooting Dhoondte Reh Jaoge with Kunal Khemu and Paresh Rawal in Mumbai.

I’ve been traveling. But right now I’ve no choice but to enjoy the monsoons.I was hoping to join them. But I can’t. I’ll go on my own later.”

Such full family reunions are rare in the Khan family. “The last time we were all together was when my parents were in Mumbai. We all got together for dinner. It was unforgettable.” Normally Soha’s father doesn’t travel to Mumbai. “But he has been coming to Mumbai recently because of cricket. He’s attached to the BCCI. My mother keeps coming for her censorship work.

As for Saif he’s become very family-oriented lately. He increasingly understands the importance of family because of his attachment to his own children. He’s even started doing family films like Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.”

The success stories of puppy fat and pimply romance are gone. It’s the more mature guys who are making the adrenalin rush now.

Gone are the days when we used to watch ‘puppy-love’ movies like Bobby, Prem Rog or Love 86 with teenage lead pairs singing and running around the trees and trying to hold their hard-beating hearts. The focus from lead actors in their late teens or early 20s has shifted to more mature looking heroes and heroines especially while they are in their 30s.

And all those Rishi Kapoors and Kumar Gauravs with puppy fat and chubby cheeks have given way to more seriously ‘men’ lookers like Hrithik Roshans and Abhishek Bachchans.

And even these superstars of the transition period have earned their place under the sun after years of struggle. In other words, by crossing the lean phase of their 20s!

In 2000, when 26-year-old Hrithik Roshan blazed up the Indian screens with Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, critics and audiences alike felt that a new star was born. But when his releases, thereafter weren’t received as positively, he was quickly written off as a one-film wonder.

The success of Koi…Mil Gaya in 2003 made his detractors say that the light-eyed actor only excels in his dad Rakesh Roshan’s films. But 2006 changed all that. Krissh, Dhoom: 2 and the multicrore deal with Adlabs pushed Hrithik to the Most Wanted league.

And he is also now considered as a versatile actor who excels both in positive and negative roles. Critics have somersaulted and now say that it was only Hrithik who could have made “two scriptless films” reach the target of over Rs 100 crore in the 2006.

Tusshar Kapoor says his recent argument with sister Ekta Kapoor over the publicity campaign of their situational comedy ‘C Kkompany’ has been exaggerated.

Tusshar designed the publicity campaign for the film, but Ekta rejected it. This led to a heated argument between the two and they did not speak to each other for two days.

‘It was just a brother-sister kind of cold war that has been hyped. Yes, we did not speak with each other for a day or two but we don’t carry our fights for long, ‘ Tusshar told over phone from Mumbai.

The matter was sorted out after Tusshar agreed to incorporate some of Ekta’s suggestions in the campaign.

‘It was just an argument but later on we both agreed and came to a common consensus, ‘ the actor said. Tusshar is usually referred to as either Jeetendra’s son or Ekta’s brother.

Asked whether this gave him an identity crisis, he said: ‘I don’t really look at it that way. I am an actor and I have made my own mark. My name in being associated with my father or sister doesn’t affect me at all.

It would have if I were not successful. I’m quite happy with the way my career is shaping up. I’m learning every day and I have no regrets.’

Also, there have been comparisons drawn between brother and sister regarding their success quotient.

Harman, his father producer-director Harry Baweja, his girlfriend and co-star Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani flew into London on Wednesday for the premiere of Love Story 2050.

But as Harman reveals, there was a catch.”We left at interval. We couldn’t stay for the whole film because we had to catch a flight back to Mumbai to look into the film’s release in India.

It was really sad that I could just stay for half of my first film. But I had no choice. We’d have missed our flight. We returned from London to Mumbai within ten hours. But never mind. I deputed some of my London-based cousins to look after the guests at the premiere.”

While the Khans went all-out to ensure a massive glamorous turn-out at the Mumbai premiere of Imran Khan’s debut film the Bawejas restricted all their flamboyance to their 80-crore budgeted film.

Off screen they played it conservative and decided to have a quiet intimate screenimg of the film at Yashraj Studios.

Only close family and friends of the Bawejas were invited.

Bollywood’s notorious “serial kisser” (he even wore this slogan on his tee in one his films) hasn’t yet quit his trademark scenes. But he has also moved on to something equally exciting and topical.

Veteran of a thousand liplocks with a bevy of beauties onscreen, in his latest film, Jannat, Emraan Hashmi goes into another tangle: that of cricket and betting and bookies.

He, however, remains as unfazed by any image people may have of him as by whichever heroine braces up before him for the liplock. “I don’t know why it gathers so much news when I kiss,” he said. “It’s not even at the back of my mind.”

The last 12 months or more may have been uneventful for Hashmi, never mind the buzz he creates with his kisses. We are one quarter gone in 2008, too, but the tiny packet of dynamite promises a good year yet. He not only has Jannat coming up at the theatres soon, Raaz 2 also features in his near-future plans.

The upcoming film, Jannat, plunges into the cricketing world of match fixing and betting, which makes it topical in the long seasons of cricket in India which nows includes Twenty20s and ICL andf IPL.

The seasons have also seen India come into its own in all versions and aspects of the game, including fighting sledging with sledging!

For few, work is passion, for some, fitness is divine!! Shahid Kapoor, the chocolate boy of big screen is a sincere fitness freak and he can vow for anything on the name of his gym!

The actor can go without meals, can go without sleep, but never will a day arise in Shahid’s life when he does not hit out for the gym. Well, for him, his gym is his temple!

But recently, the actor suffered a minor setback as he suffered a sprain in his neck while working out at his gym and had to be rushed to hospital. Even a ten day bed rest advised by the doctor could not stop Shahid, as he landed at the altar of his gym on the third day itself!!

When it comes to his acting prowess, the actor for sure is traveling places and he is sure to make the girls’ jaw drop with his smashing new look for Aziz Mirza’s Kismat Konnection where he sports a cropped hair.

After Harman Baweja’s Love Story 2050, futuristic Mumbai will be seen in Shekhar Kapoor’s Paani.

Laughs Harry, “I’m glad I was the one to bell the cat. Everyone seems to have woken up to the powers of special effects. The audience now wants to see more F-X films.

I feel after my film’s release there’ll be dozens of such films on the floor. This is the future of Indian cinema. Thirty years ago Hollywood got us Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone doing Terminator and Rocky.

It was all about letting the machismo hang out. Today the concept of the actioner and the action hero has changed. Overt beefy jungle-man tactics are out. Today’s audience is the subtle urban multiplex audience.

The ‘interiors’ still exist, but only for the Bhojpuri films.”

Hyper Harry halts for breath. Though Love Story 2050 moves through two different time zones and two eras, Baweja has learnt a lesson from the Jodhaa-Akbar experience.

“Mine is an epic kind of film. The story needs to move smoothly in time. The time factor was a problem. We tried to get it down to 2 hours 30 miniutes. But we’ll have to keep it at 2 hours 50 minutes.”

Sikandar, the son of Anupam Kher and Kiron Kher, who is all set to make his debut as actor in films with Summer 2007 tells me at the outset of this interview when I meet him at his spacious apartment in Juhu that his biggest advantage is that he has grown up in the film fraternity.

“The vast knowledge of films that I have is thanks to this environment. My parents Kirron as well as Anupam have been actors. Unlike other new comers who have no background at all, I can go to my parents for their advise and acting tips, because they know all about acting. It is a great secure feeling for a new comer like me”.

Sikandar is all set to face challenges as an actor. “I know that there will be a lot of expectations from me because of my parents but I am ready to face the challenges that may come my way.

I love waking up in the morning and going to the shoots. It is really fun seeing a character come alive. I enjoy the whole process and the pain behind acting. I just cannot express it in words”.

Sikandar confesses that he is aware that he does not have a chocolate face and hence wants to do roles which have negative shades.

“Looking at my face, you can make out easily that I am not at all a chocolate actor. Yet I’d not shy at all from doing a romantic film. Though all films have elements of romance, I’d specially love to do a romantic film.

Yet, all said and done, I’d say that I do not approach a film as a romantic film or for that matter a thriller, because a film is a film”.

The cat and mouse battle that kicked off after the release of Aitraaz wherein Priyanka walked away with the cake in terms of role and appreciation got never-ending as the tussle blew up to a bigger proportion at a live concert, when Kareena snubbed Priyanka back stage.

It’s firmed in now. Harman Baweja’s long-awaited debut film Love Story 2050 will be released on July 4.

The shooting is almost done. The last two days when Harman’s snazzy introduction was shot has just been completed.

Says the film’s producer Harry Baweja, “We’ve all worked very hard on this film. The shooting is complete. Now begins the real struggle.The FX are comparable with anything from Hollywood, as we could see from the theatrical trailers that were released with Race.”

But before the Big Release of the film on July 4 there’s another red-letter day waiting for the big film.

It’s the music release of Love Story 2050. The date chosen for the event is May 10.

Though Priyanka will be shooting in Miami for Tarun Mansukhani’s Dostana she has already set that date aside for Mumbai. Taking time off from the tight schedule in Miami Priyanka will pay a flying visit to Mumbai to be there for Harman’s big day.

Seldom, if ever, has a co-star gone so much out of her way for any project.

Earlier this month Priyanka joined the crew in Miami a day late because she wanted to be in Mumbai when the theatrical trailer of Love Story 2050 was released.

She is known for her bindass talk and no hold barred skin show but who knew that would fecth her a role in a Yash Raj Films. Yes you heard it right… Sherlyn Chopra has bagged a film from India’s most prized production house opposite Shahid Kapoor.

The film is a love triangle involving Rani Mukerji, Shahid Kapur and Sherlyn. Chopra will be seen at her seductive best and will have a lot of steamy scenes with Shahid.

The insiders claims that the ‘outrageous’ girl has been in the good books of Yash Chopra, who also launched her debut album.

He has been wanting to get in touch with her for some time but Sherlyn had her number changed so they finally got it from Vinod Pandey, who directed her in Red Swastika.

Sherlyn is apparantly happy but not shouting from rooftop, “For me, this is just the beginning. Yes, I am a part of Anurag’s film but I still need to work much harder to get to the place where I really want to be right at the top. I have it in me to be a kick-ass Bollywood babe and I will do it.”

On working with Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukerji, Sherlyn says, “I just want to do this role to the best of my abilities and want them to start wondering how I can act with so much of finesse and ease.

The director, Anurag Singh has told that he will be pitching me against them and that I have to be on par with their performances.”

Saif Ali Khan isn’t the only one who’s unveiled a secret passion for playing the guitar. Director Farhan Akhtar, who plays a rock musician in Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Rock On’, also knows how to strum but says he is not as good.

Now that Saif and Farhan are working together in the latter’s ‘Voice From The Sky’, will they be jamming together?

‘I don’t mind, but I don’t think I’m as good as Saif on the guitar. Not that we’re in competition or anything,’ Farhan, who ventured into showbiz with the successful directorial venture ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, told.

Unlike Farhan, Saif has performed at a few concerts and also played the guitar with the Indi-rock band Parikrama.

For Farhan, ‘Rock On’ was like a dream come true.

‘Playing the rock musician in ‘Rock On’ has been a wild fantasy come true for me. I’ve been playing the guitar for eight years now. When I was 14, I heard Guns ‘N’ Roses do their song ‘Appetite for destruction’ and I was hooked. I wanted to be a rock star.

‘The timing for ‘Rock On’ was just right. When I met Abhishek Kapoor and he told me about my role of a musician, I grabbed it. I had the time to sharpen my skills on the strings. It gave me a chance to play out a secret fantasy. I really enjoyed it.’

‘Rock On’ recreates the musical mischievous masti of Farhan’s ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. And Farhan is all praise for his musicians.
